Doug was the son of a career Army officer and lived throughout the United States until his father was stationed at the Pentagon. He joined the active Army in 1987 as an Intelligence Analyst and was stationed in Kirchgoens, Germany, and Fort Campbell, KY before his deployment to Desert Shield and Desert Storm. In 1992, he left the active Army and attended Old Dominion University, where he pursued a degree in International Relations.
In 1997, after returning to Arlington, VA, he decided to join the Virginia Army National Guard as an Infantryman and progressed through the ranks where he currently holds a position as a First Sergeant. He was an Army ROTC instructor at the University of Virginia from 2005 to 2011. His deployments include three trips to Afghanistan, one to Iraq, one to Kuwait and a current deployment to Qatar.
He is employed as a defense contractor in Charlottesville.
