The acclaimed public health humanities project Theater of War presents readings of ancient Greek plays to help spark conversations with service members, veterans, caregivers, families, and communities about the visible and invisible wounds of war. In this performance, Theater of War presents Ajax, Sophocles’ tragedy about a great warrior’s suicide and the toll exacted on others by his experience of PTSD. The dramatic reading of the play by actors Kathryn Erbe (Law and Order) and Zach Grenier (The Good Wife) is the catalyst for town-hall discussion about the human costs of war. Founded by classicist and theater director Bryan Doerries, in the last decade Theater of War has opened up powerful, compassionate dialogue in hundreds of communities and military installations worldwide.
