Calvin Edgar Davis was born January 2, 1924. He was from Charlottesville, Virginia and served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army. Seventy-three years ago today on May 28, 1944 he was killed in combat from wounds inflicted near Paris, France, he was only 20 years old. For his service he earned the Air medal with four oak leaf clusters, Presidential Unit Citation, and a Purple Heart

John Henry Neff Jr. was both this week 96 years ago on May 11, 1921. He attended Lane High School and was a UVA scholar. He was in many organizations at UVA including Beta Theta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa, Skull and Keys, German Club, T.I.L.K.A., Z Society, V Club, the Football Team, Raven Society, and Washington Society. He served as Second Lieutenant in the Marine Corps. On August 9, 1943 he was killed in an airplane crash in Florida, he was 22 years old.

James Douglas Hamm was born on February 16, 1920. He attended the University of Virginia as an engineering student he participated in the Hayes Literary Society, Junior Football and Student Government, he made the Dean’s List of Distinguished Students. Hamm served in the United States Army as the Second Lieutenant in the 95th Fighter Squadron. Hamm was killed in North Africa 74 years ago today, May 3, 1943, he was 23 years old. For his service he was awarded an Air Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart

Robert Joseph Hess was born March 25, 1987, at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He attended Old Dominion University and graduated with a degree in Criminology in 2010 Hess was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, in November 2012, where he was a UH-60M Blackhawk pilot and mission planner. 1st Lieutenant RJ Hess died on April 23, 2013 in Pul-E-Alam, Afghanistan.
September 9, 1976 - June 8, 2004
Humayun Saqib Muazzam Khan was born on September 9, 1976. He attended the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps. In 2000 Khan became an officer in the US Army and on June 8, 2004 he was killed from a suicide attacker near Baqubah, Iraq. CPT Khan was the first UVA ROTC alumnus killed in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
