4 Our Freedom 5K

Join us for the seventh running of the race on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the UVA Research Park. ParadeRest Virginia will be administering the race. The name of the race, formerly 4 the Wounded 5K, has been changed to 4 Our Freedom 5K to more accurately reflect the intent to provide support to all members of the military and their veterans. ParadeRest Virginia will manage the race, the grant process, and the distribution of race proceeds to local organizations in our community that support members of our military and their families.

This is a ceremony recognizing our Charlottesville/Albemarle/Fluvanna/Greene and other Central Virginia area high school seniors who have chosen to enlist in one of the uniformed services in lieu of immediately going to college or going to work after graduation. This includes those going active duty, Reserve or National Guard. We need to acknowledge the decision these young men and women here made to serve our nation.

About Us

Composed of veterans, non-veterans, and representatives of the University of Virginia and Charlottesville area community, the ParadeRest Board has donated its time since 2009 towards providing ways to engage military personnel and their families with the local community. Expressions of gratitude for our veterans have taken the form of donated tickets to entertainment and sporting events.

ParadeRest was launched with the assistance of the National Headquarters of the American Red Cross, the Blue Star Families of Central Virginia and the Research Strategies Network with the purpose of encouraging such expressions of our community’s gratitude, and to provide returning and soon-to-be-deployed service members, and their families during their deployments, with convenient online information and access to these invitations and opportunities. Because of its role in community resilience as well as oral history, and its relevance to Critical Incident Analysis, UVA’s Critical Incident Analysis Group (CIAG) also supports ParadeRest in its educational mission.
